Lyrics of the Day

Yes I'd rather hurt than feel nothing at all.
It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone and I need you now.

KKN Day 13

27 Jan 2010
Today I fleed back to Bandung! Took a few days off cuz I needed that. Nanda, Ijal and I rode the ojek for 1 hour and transit to at least 2 old minibuses.
It was a long journey but I had the best 3 days of the month in Bandung-Nangor! :)

KKN Day 12

26 Jan 2010
Today Dini and Hilman came back to Subang after fleeing off to Jakarta for four days. Hilman brought us cheesecake that he and his mom made. On the other hand, Dini brought Chicken Satay for us to eat at dinner. Such an exciting day!

KKN Day 11

25 Jan 2010
I taught English to the 6 graders today. They were enthusiastic in learning the subject and improved their reading skill. At noon, we were in invited to a pengajian but I did not attend because I had to collect data for the final time.

KKN Day 10

24 Jan 2010
The only thing I did today was collect datas from each houses from one of the rt regarding the areas of persawahan. And I tried the local bakso. Nothing eventful.

KKN Day 9

23 Jan 2010
The most outrageous thing that happened today was... Gw lg di kmr mandi, when suddenly this guy walked in without even knocking the door. Yup, that's right. Di rumah KKN, kmr mandinya gada kuncinya.

KKN Day 8

22 Jan 2010
Today I was scheduled to teach at an elementary school of a village where there were barely any electricity. I taught Grade 4 Math with a bonus of English through the end of the period.
Started off with the formulas of parallelograms and 2 digits multiplications. They were quite enthusiastic and fought over to answer the questions on the chalkboard. So I gave them each and every one of them a chance to answer different equations on the board. This way I would know which kids comprehended and which who don't. As a bonus, I taught them to sing the ABC's in English and played name-the-animals game.  At the end of the period, the kids asked if we all could get our pictures taken.
I proceeded the next period with teaching the name of fruits in English to the 5th grade.
Was surprised by how discipline these kids were, compared to those living in the city. (to which I can relate to as a kid who always live in big cities).

KKN Day 7

21 Jan 2010
We all gotten ready quickly today because we have to be at the balai desa by 9 o'clock. Every Thursday balai desa has a weekly meeting. Since today was Thursday, we also attended the meeting. They introduced the whole 'aparat desa' and we also introduced ourselves. Then we were asked to list the total area of persawahan. Therefore we were to questioned 20 RT which consist of 30-40 houses in each RT. We only got down to 2 RT's.
Here is a picture of green chilis which were the size of thumbs.

KKN Day 6

20 Jan 2010
I missed the premiere of Glee today. And I spent the whole day staying inside the house playing a silent UNO. That night we ordered bakso which was the size of a tennis ball. I thought it looked weird, so I didn't finish it.

KKN Day 5

19 Jan 2010
I never knew that doing laundry the traditional way would be such a hard thing to do. Especially the rinsing part. And since it's rainy season, it would take more than one day for them to dry up.
Today the guys went rat hunting in the sawah along with the locals. They caught about +50 rats. Rats were the main problems in the prairies.
We were supposed to stop by at the kepala desa but when we got to the balai desa no one was there but instead we met an old man who we assumed was a buruh tani. He did not speak Bahasa Indonesia but Javanese. A few people at my research group spoke Sundanese, but this man did not speak Sundanese either. So then Nanda managed herself to speak in Javanese and I ended up laughing at her and we got to a conclusion that the kepala desa and his crew already left the office. It was only 2.30pm at the time and we thought they leave at 4.
As we were making our way back, we stopped by at a small warung that serves coconut. So we went for a sip. Oh and I also found a fake oreo called oriorio! LOL

KKN Day 4

18 Jan 2010
Today we had a tour around Mekarjaya. It turned out that Mekarjaya has more mango trees compared to rambutans. And the village is so huge that it goes up to 800 ha. Then we stopped by to a wooden warung that looked a bit like gubuk and ate some bala-bala. Later that afternoon we discussed our work program which consist of teaching and census gathering. And after that we played a card game called Bego. LOL
This is a picture of a bridge which borders Mekarjaya and Jatireja of Subang.

KKN Day 3

17 Jan 2010
I started off my day with a game of UNO and Capsa with Rizal, Indra, Yanto, Daniel and Fian. And later on that afternoon Nanda, Yara, Indra, Rizal and I pay a visit to a 'dusun' called Sukaresmi. We met the head of the dusun. He told us how he felt he was being choke by 'something' the previous night in the bathroom. His nose and forehead was heavily bruised due to constant bangings on the bathroom walls. He said that he was entranced by some supernatural force and was really close of passing out.

KKN Day 2

16 Jan 2010
It's the second day of KKN and we started our day by going to Balai Desa to question the Kepala Desa regarding the Desa itself. He mentioned how the people in Mekarjaya were mostly Farmers known as Buruh Tani and the others have flown off as TKI to Taiwan & many other countries. We called the lady who owns the house as Ibu Jun. Ibu Jun's husband works as a taxi driver in Jakarta. And amazingly the family could built a cozy home in the village along with a mini market right next to it. Bless this family because they were willing to accept us in their home.
On the second day, Daniel and Yanto showed up. And later on that night, the girls decided to go to Pasar Kaget (which only occurs once a week on a saturday night) while the boys chose to have some kicks of soccer. Like many other Pasar Kaget, they sell variety of stuff on each tent. Tents of kids garment; pirated CDs; accesorries; house equipments. And there were also gerobak of bakso, es campur, sekoteng, martabak. I couldn't get a clearer image of the Pasar Kaget but I hope this will do.

KKN Day 1

15 Jan 2010
Today is the first day of KKN! Yesterday, gw dianterin bokap nyokap along with my uncle sampe Jatinangor. It has been 3 years since my parents last visited me. So I was actually thrilled! I was told to gather at 6 am in campus tapi gw sama sekali belum tau kelompok KKN gw. So then I called the ketua kelompok known as KorDes (Koordinator Desa). And so I met the rest of the people in the group on the bus. There were Nurul, Achmad, Hilman, Achi, Winny, Nila, Dini, Hilman, Rizal, Fian, Ristanti, Nita and Veby. Subang is located just right above Bandung. The village that we're staying at is called Mekarjaya and is 20km away from the northern beach. We first arrived at the balai desa of Mekarjaya in which the kepala desa tells us the place where we're gonna stay. Kepala desanya blg klo rumahnya gabungan 3 rmh. But when we got there we were too shocked to even speak. The house was totally deserted, the windows were dusty and there were barely any lightings. Worst of all was the bathroom and kitchen happened to be in the same room and it was super dark. The bathroom had no door and the toilet was in such a strange shape that I have never seen before. It was tall like a stool, but made of cement. it looked like a toilet and a sink combined in one, but I'm definitely sure that it was a toilet! So there I was, standing with eyes bulging out and imagining myself having to stay there for a whole month.
But luckily we found a much decent house. This house was practically a Vegas in the village. It has a room with 2 single beds, a mini market right next-door, a washing machine, and the bathroom was normal. The house is similar to those in Jakarta and the lady allowed us to stay there and so we did. Thank God!
And later on that night, Nanda and Yara showed up. They haven't seen the super spooky house yet. But we'll get to that part later...
